Professor Siew Ng received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the St. Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from Imperial College London. After 10 years’ practice as Gastroenterologist in London, Prof Ng came to Hong Kong and pursued her academic career at the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2009.

Prof Ng is Croucher Professor in Medical Sciences at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics and Associate Dean (Research) of Faculty of Medicine, CUHK. She is also Director of Microbiota I-Center (MagIC) which is established under InnoHK, an initiative by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Prof Ng co-founded GenieBiome Limited, and MicroSigX Biotech Diagnostic Limited in 2019 and 2024 respectively with a mission to transform novel microbiome discoveries into effective diagnostics and therapeutics. Prof Ng is President of Hong Kong Society of Gastroenterology and Advisory Board Member of Asian Organization of Crohn’s and Colitis (AOCC). She is Associate Editor of Gut.

Prof Ng is a pioneer in the epidemiology, genetics, pathogenesis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Asia-Pacific and globally. She brought together 30 countries and 100 centers in Asia-Pacific to study IBD. She is developing a 100K mother-baby longitudinal microbiome cohort in China for IBD prevention. She was elected to the highly prestigious International Organization for the study of IBD (IOIBD), which is an elite group of top 50 leaders globally.

She discovered novel microbial signatures in stool and transformed into non-invasive diagnostics using a cutting-edge multi-bacteria screening platform, creating a paradigm shift in early disease screening and detection especially for colorectal cancer, IBD and autism spectrum disorder. In 2017, she established Asia’s First fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) research center which is now the sole provider of FMT service to all Hong Kong public hospitals. She developed MOZAICTM technology to optimize FMT successful rate to over 90%.

She has published over 420 papers in international leading journals, including Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine and Lancet. In 2023, ExpertScape regarded her as the top 0.029% world expert in IBD. She has been named Highly-cited Researcher by Clarivate for 6 consecutive years since 2020.

In recognition of her achievements, Prof Ng was elected as Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea in Clinical & Veterinary Science. She was the first female clinician-scientist to be selected as New Cornerstone Investigator in Chinese Mainland by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation in 2023. She won the Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize in Life and Health in 2024. She was awarded The Visionary Women Award in 2024. She was bestowed with Croucher Professorship in Medical Sciences in 2022 and awarded Ministry of Education (MoE) Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Natural Science), First-class award in 2020. As a successful clinician-entrepreneur, she was awarded Best Innopreneur Award by Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 2025, as well as the Technology Fast Outstanding Female Entrepreneur Award by Deloitte Hong Kong in 2022.

Prof Ng was awarded Joanna and David Sachar International Award and Visiting Professorship (Mount Sinai, New York) and Sir Francis Avery Jones Award and Visiting Professorship (St Mark’s Hospital, London) in 2019, Cleveland Clinic IBD Global Visiting Professorship in 2021, as well as World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) Distinguished Global Lecture Award, by the Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) in 2023.
