Professor Chi-Ming CHE, ASHK Founding Member, Zhou Guangzhao Professor in Natural Sciences and Chair Professor of Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, The University of Hong Kong, and his research team have successfully developed a groundbreaking portable AI-powered optical sensing device for rapid cancer risk assessment.
This innovative device allows users to perform non-invasive tests independently using saliva samples through a smartphone app. Powered by a new class of luminescent metal compounds that specifically target damaged DNA sites, the system delivers precise AI-driven reports in just 10 minutes. It provides a convenient and reliable monitoring solution for high-risk individuals and cancer survivors.
The invention was awarded the “Judges’ Special Award Gold Medal” at the 51st Geneva International Invention Exhibition, showcasing Hong Kong’s world-class excellence in chemistry and health technology innovation.
