Professor Lo: “I am deeply honoured to receive the Gold Bauhinia Star from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This award recognises not only my personal efforts but also the steadfast support of my team. It inspires me to continue contributing to Hong Kong’s higher education and innovation landscape in my capacities as Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and President of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences.
Scientific research has been my lifelong pursuit. From developing non-invasive prenatal testing to advancing early cancer detection technologies, seeing these innovations bring tangible benefits and hope to families and patients worldwide has been the greatest motivation for my team and me to forge ahead.
As Hong Kong advances its development as a global innovation and technology hub, CUHK and I carry a vital mission: to nurture future talent, deliver impactful research results, and serve the society. I am confident in Hong Kong’s research strengths and future prospects. I will strive to lead CUHK in close collaboration with all sectors to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as an international centre of educational and research excellence.”
