Prof Way KUO, Founding Member of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, has been elected as International Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in recognition of his influential contributions in the field of engineering on 15 June 2021.
Prof Kuo is the President and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong. He is renowned for his work in design for reliability of electronics systems and nuclear energy. He is also a pioneer in reliability modeling of electronics at the infant mortality stage and several of his publications have become classics in systems reliability.
Prof Kuo is author and co-author of books on reliability, quality and education. He was the first foreign expert invited by Japan to visit Fukushima after the accident in March 2011 where he conducted a post-accident assessment. In addition, Prof Kuo is well known for promoting higher education with an emphasis on relevance to societal needs and problem-oriented research.
Canadian Academy of Engineering said, “A pioneer in systems reliability, Way Kuo has made fundamental contributions to, and published classic books on, optimal reliability design for electronics and energy systems in environmental sustainability”.
New Fellows 2021 include Prof Li Cheng, Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof Song Guo, Professor, Department of Computing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Prof Qiang Yang, Chair Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellowship is a prestigious honour for accomplished engineers who have expressed dedication to the application of science and engineering principles.
